About me
My name is Kahala Dixon. I am a Clinical Psychologist specialising in trauma and perinatal mental health.
I have always been passionate about working in healthcare, particularly mental health.
My career began in nursing, where I developed an understanding of how physical and mental health are closely connected. I saw first hand how mental health was often overlooked in healthcare settings, and how physical and emotional wellbeing overlap.
This led me to pursue psychology, and I’ve since developed a strong interest in helping people adjust to health challenges, the traumas they may experience across the lifespan, and the emotional wellbeing of parents and families adjusting to the perinatal period.

Approach
I am a warm and compassionate psychologist. I believe that the therapy space is very personal and individual; there is no “one size fits all” approach.
I like to spend time getting to know the person in front of me, to ensure that they feel comfortable speaking about their experiences with someone new.
I draw upon various evidence-based therapeutic techniques depending on the needs, values and goals of the individual.
In addition to clinical work, I am also an AHPRA Board Approved Supervisor.

My experience spans both hospital and private practice settings, supporting people through a wide range of challenges. My experience includes working with adults across the lifespan, as well as parents navigating the perinatal period.
Currently, I also work at The Parent and Baby Unit (Naamuru) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where I focus on both clinical work and research.
My previous roles have included working in private practice, as well as in public health settings with families adjusting to the perinatal period at the Perinatal Mental Health Service (PIMHS) and supporting clients in specialised clinics such as the Nepean Antenatal Clinic, Anxiety Disorders Clinic and Family Metabolic Health Clinic.
